Market Weighton Drainage Board is an Internal Drainage Board (IDB) with permissive powers under the Land Drainage Act 1991 for maintaining and improving land drainage within its district. It also has a duty to further nature conservation. The Board is a publicly funded body which actively manages local watercourses to control water levels and help reduce flood risk for the benefit of the local community.
The Market Weighton Drainage Board drainage district is situated immediately west of the East Yorkshire Wolds and reaches down to the Humber Estuary. It covers some 20,000 Ha of mainly rural area. The Board dates back to an Act of Parliament made in 1772. This Act provided for the construction of the Market Weighton Canal and created the early pattern of drainage helping local communities to establish.

Opening Hours: The Boards offices will normally be staffed between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
